Well Permitting

Chapter 36, Texas Water Code, requires that groundwater conservation districts issue permits for the drilling, equipping, or completing of wells or for substantially altering the size of wells or well pumps.  The South Plains UWCD also requires that domestic, stock, or other wells which will be capable of producing no more than 25,000 gallons per day (17.4 gpm) be registered before drilling begins.

A $250 deposit is required when either a permit or registration is obtained.  The deposit is eligible for refund when all requirements of the refund are met.  Click here to see well permit/registration requirements.

More information regarding Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR) requirements and TDLR forms is available.
