SPUWCD Precipitation Enhancement ProgramThe South Plains Underground Water Conservation District is participating in the Southern Ogallala Aquifer Rainfall Enhancement (SOAR) program for 2007. The SOAR target area includes approximately 2.3 million acres in Gaines, Terry and Yoakum counties. Each of these counties are within the boundaries of a groundwater conservation district. These include the Llano Estacado UWCD (Gaines), South Plains UWCD (Terry and part of Hockley), and Sandy Land UWCD (Yoakum). The program is administered by the Sandy Land UWCD. The aircraft and radar are located at the Plains, TX airport. These Districts maintain a network of 106 rain gauges that are read monthly during the program.
